It's a quick turn around from Bali so in part one of a two part episode Jimmy and Cahill are joined by the man behind Lipped's music and legendary Victorian surfer Johnny Hawken to break down all the highlights, lowlights and news from Bali.

The crew also look ahead to the Margaret River Pro and Cahill breaks down exactly what John Florence did in 2017.

Judging rants, a look at the details of Kanoa Igarashi's surfing and the counter point to Chas Smith's call for a seperate criteria for women.

It's so surf it hurts and as always it's fuelled by the legends at Salt Brewing Co.

Chas Smith is the founder of Beachgrit and a prolific content creator in and beyond surfing.

He recently released the stunning documentary Trouble featuring the story of one of the world's truly iconic surfers Lisa Anderson.

Over a vodka soda we discuss the making of the movie and why talent should never be involved in making their own movies, why he loves both Lisa and Jamie O'Brien, why women should be leading the surfing world and why he's a Collingwood supporter.

Honest, insightful and always unique please enjoy Chas Smith.

As always Lipped is fuelled by Salt Lager

Behind the Shaper is a new Lipped series presented by Surf Visuals and Urbnsurf.

Our last episode for this series features Shyama Buttonshaw.

Shyama was born and raised just around the corner from Bells Beach and his surfing and shaping lineage is deeply woven into the iconic break.

His surfing mentors include Simon Anderson, Maurice Cole, Corey Graham, Wayne Lynch and Greg Brown.  All of whom have created, innovated and made famous statements upon the hallowed walls of the Bells Bowl.

More than just a surfer shaper, Shyama blends art, surfing and shaping into a fluid and unique mix and recently this has led to his inclusion in the Stab Electric Acid Surfboard Test.

In this episode we explore his origins, his relationships with his mentors and how a 18 month injury lay off has revitalised his surfing.

The first instalment of Behind The Shaper features well-known and underground shapers from Victoria’s iconic Surf Coast, a birthplace of surfing culture, industry and craftsmanship regarded around the world. What started out as a small project quickly ballooned into a 80 page magazine with photography by Ed Sloane and the construction of custom surfboards to be ridden by the shapers in URBNSURF Melbourne’s lagoon later in 2019.

To pre-order a copy of Behind The Shaper, for more info on the series, to score tickets to the gallery exhibition and for your chance to win a ‘Golden Ticket’ to surf with the 12 shapers at URBNSURF Melbourne later this year check out www.behindtheshaper.com

Jon Pyzel is the shaper for the current World Championship Tour Leader - John Florence.  Is he surprised by John's form so far this year?  What did he think of the rumours that JJF wasn't coming back?  How do you bring on a new team rider in the classiest way possible and how much better can the Ghost perform under John's feet at Margaret River?

Jon fuels up on caffeine and gives us those answers and so much more.

Plus we look back at an epic 58th running of the Rip Curl Pro with trials winner and event wildcard Harry Mann.  With Cahill part of the Red Bull Water Patrol and Jimmy on beach commentary they have Bells covered from every angle.

Behind the Shaper is a new Lipped series presented by Surf Visual and Urbnsurf

John Robertson (known universally as Robbo) is a throwback to the golden age of surfer shapers.  From his beloved "playground" Robbo is constantly testing and refining boards and his own understanding of what works when.

Also a throwback is the classic Australian shaper and retail set-up at Strapper surfboards.  There's something quintessentially Australian about buying a Robbo from Strapper knowing that the bloke that made it, did so less than 20 metres from where you're standing.

Even better you know it's full of the passion and experience, built by the guy in the local stores, who loves the local waves that he's been surfing his whole life.

Behind the Shaper is a new Lipped series presented by Surf Visuals and Urbnsurf.

This episode features Eiji Shiomoto.  Eiji started his shaping journey as a teenager in Japan in the late 1960's.  His shaping journey has seen him grow his business in Japan, travel and surf the world before moving to the Surfcoast of Victoria to set up home near Bells Beach.

A true gentleman of the sport Eiji is kind and considerate to those around him and genuinely cares about the boards he shapes for his customers.

Far from traditional and always coming up with new ideas, you can watch Eiji shape in his bay within the Surfworld Museum in Torquay where we recorded this conversation.
